Professional cleaning and regular dental check-ups

General dentistry

What it is

Professional cleaning removes tartar and plaque that ordinary brushing cannot. It helps prevent tooth decay, gum inflammation and bad breath.

At a regular check-up we examine the teeth, gums and existing restorations so that problems are found early, when treatment is simpler.

Questions

Your questions

How often should I have a professional cleaning?

Every 6 months is often recommended, but the interval may be shorter for patients with sensitive gums or braces.

Is cleaning painful?

It is usually not painful. If you have sensitivity, the procedure is adapted so you feel comfortable.

Will my teeth look whiter after cleaning?

Cleaning removes surface stains and tartar, so teeth look cleaner and brighter, but it does not replace professional whitening.

Can my gums bleed during cleaning?

If the gums are inflamed, there may be some light bleeding. With regular cleaning and good hygiene this usually improves.

How long does a cleaning session take?

One session is usually enough. The length depends on the amount of tartar and the condition of the gums.
